ABERDEENSHIRE

THE Liberal Democrats formed a coalition with the Independents in 2003 and may hope to seek a similar deal after May 3.

But Audrey Findlay, who led the council, is one of a number of long-serving councillors retiring. They include Provost Raymond Bisset (33 years), Bruce Mair (36), and George Lumsden (30).

One in three votes cast in 2003 was for the LibDems, 27.9% were for the SNP, 20.9% for the Conservatives, 13.9% for the Independents, and 3.3% for Labour. The council area has a higher proportion of younger people than the rest of Scotland.
