STIRLING

ONE of the closest council contests, in an area where both Labour and Conservatives will be hopeful of emerging as the biggest party.

An overall majority looks highly unlikely and the SNP and LibDems will be looking to take seats. A coalition will be likely and, if the LibDems manage to win any seats, they could be powerbrokers.

Six wards electing three councillors and one electing four will be the new structure.

The council includes Stirling, Dunblane, and also covers a large rural area.

It now has the highest council tax in Scotland and the new administration will face a problem with modernising council houses after tenants voted against a housing stock transfer last year.
