The Parties- April 7

Labour
Chancellor Gordon Brown, on the stump yet again in the Scottish campaign, claimed: "The reality for Scotland, Scottish businesses and Scottish homeowners under an SNP administration would be from day one confusion, prolonged instability and a threat to investment and living standards and jobs of Scottish people."

SNP
Alex Salmond pledges to double the overseas aid budget. "Scots want to see a more successful country, one built on the twin themes of peace and prosperity for all, not just in Scotland but across the world," he said in Stirling. "I want a Scotland that is a force for good in the world and a voice for peace. I believe Scotland can lead the way for other countries by increasing our contribution to international aid efforts. If we can set a positive example for others to follow the benefits will bring increased hope to millions across the globe."

LibDems
AN IDENTICAL pledge came from Nicol Stephen, who said the issue of international aid was one that should "unite, not divide, the political parties of Scotland".

The Lib Dem said progress towards the UN goals to cut world poverty by half by 2015 was "nowhere near good enough". "Now is the time for Scotland to do more to make poverty history. I want to double the Scottish Executive's overseas aid budget. I hope all the other party leaders will agree this, whatever the outcome of the election," he said.

Conservatives
Speaking outside the Victoria Infirmary in Glasgow, Annabel Goldie, Scottish Conservative Leader, said: "Hospitals that were built up under the Conservatives have been run down by the Lib-Lab Pact. Scottish Conservatives offer closer, faster, better healthcare."

Others
Green co-convener Robin Harper visited an Old People's Forum in Edinburgh and pledged: "Older people have the right to a good quality of life. Thousands of older Scots are struggling to make ends meet because the basic state pension is so low and the benefits system is complex and confusing with millions of pounds going unclaimed."
