| 60 Second briefing The Parties - April 2 LABOURJack McConnell announced two eye-catching manifesto pledges, on football and high streets.He also faced the second of his television bouts with other party leaders, having refused to debate with Alex Salmond until this weekend.The party talked down reports that it could be looking to Tories for a deal to keep Labour in minority control. CONSERVATIVEAnother disappointing showing in the latest poll from ONS System Three, with 13% on the constituency voting intentions and 11% on the list, suggesting the party could be knocked back to 13 seats. Tory hopes of influencing a minority Labour administration were boosted by comments from Jack McConnell that it is time to think about options other than full coalition.
SNPThe SNP was boosted by the fourth poll in five days showing them ahead of Labour. ONS System Three found 39 to 34 on the constituency vote and 36 to 25 on the regional vote. One projection of these figures would give the SNP 51 seats, compared to 27 four years ago. In 1999, System Three put Labour 13 points ahead, and in March 2003 constituency vote level at 31%.
LIBDEMSNicol Stephen and Sir Menzies Campbell unveiled their bio-fuelled battle bus to take them into Labour's heartlands. They said they want to make MSP and council gains in Greenock, Stirling, Glasgow and South of Scotland.
